The Annual Weird Genius Real Science Fair
The Annual Weird Genius Real Science Fair is a science expo for the rest of us. This event is designed for geeky amateurs, basement enthusiasts, and science professionals who want to exhibit actual science projects, science-enhanced/themed art, and anything even vaguely scientific they feel like bringing in. Its a science art party with sass, what more can you ask for?!?!

BYOA (Bring Your Own Art)
BYOA is a multi-disciplinary art exhibition that is auto-curated, that is to say, without a curator screening or selecting works to be presented. While the event is coordinated by SOAP, there is no overarching theme or narrative and we leave plenty of room for improvisation, walk in submissions, and on-site creations. The intent behind this event is to draw out creative people from the community and give them the opportunity to display their art on the basis of their own taste and interests, not those of a gallery owner and their prospective clientele. The result is an event that showcases the full spectrum of creative endeavor, with all levels of talent, skill, and vision represented in a broad diversity of disciplines including painting, music, film, sculpture, performance, and photography.

Outsider Micro-Grants
SOAP offers small monetary grants to promising individuals or groups who might not otherwise seek funding from conventional sources. These open-ended gifts are awarded to those whose passion to create persists despite lack of resources, experience, or exposure. These awards are meant to recognize talented outsiders and encourage them to pursue their vision of excellence. These are awarded on a competitive basis. The next micro-grant application deadline is October 1, 2005. Please send all inquiries to: grants@seattleoutsider.org

Fricker's Follies
http://www.frickers.net/
Fricker's Follies is a vaudeville and burlesque review that embodies the outsider spirit. Raw, energetic, and fiercely independent (once rejecting a sponsorship offer from Lucky Strike cigarettes), each show boasts a variety of unique acts complemented with an edgy blend of skits and short film, all done on less than a shoestring budget. Their dizzying assortment of memorable characters, political and cultural satire, absurdist slapstick, and homespun special effects give testament to the amount of hard work and dedication that goes into each show.
